Discussion question 2
Which of the types of speech context do you find easy and difficult to practice? What should you do to improve your skills?
The type of speech context I find
easy is interpersonal communication. I find it easy because it doesn’t involve
too much people. It can be between two people or a group of people. Plus the
people involved here are commonly friends or even family members. They are the
people in which you are comfortable talking to since they have been a part of
your life. Since they have been a part of your life, their opinions aren’t full
of hatred. They correct you or tell you on what’s off since they care about
you. The speech context is very personal to you and the involved in the process
of communication.
The type of speech context that I find
hard to practice is Public. This involves a crowd who you never met. Public
also has a goal that is either to inform or persuade the crown to agree with
your sentiment. I find it hard because I have stage fright. I tend to sweat a
lot and shiver in fear. Also in public, you have to raise your voice so that
the people at the back will hear you. My voice is pretty unstable because I easily
run out of breath. Overall I just do not like talking to big crowds.
To improve my skills, especially in
public speech, I must overcome my fear. There will always be a time where I
need to do public talk. If I can keep on succumbing from my fear, I will never
overcome it nor deliver a great public speech. If I keep on getting scared, it
will be a disadvantage for me because I am lacking in a great skill. I must
face my fears and practice talking to crowds. I’ll start practicing with my
friends and in group reporting. That way, It’ll be a practice to face a real
crowd.
